about

I gave her a card with these words that last morning. I meant these words then, and I mean them now. I want nothing but good for her.

lyrics

Wrote a card to her that morning
And I tried to say all that was on my heart to say
How I cherished all the years being her husband
And that I would carry sweet memories with the pain

Oh I wanted her to know that I forgive her
I forgive myself and in the end I’m just sad
No, I’m not trying to lay all the blame on her shoulders
I know I made mistakes and I’m sorry for that

Well they were my last words and my last chance
To make sure she knew I didn’t regret what we had… so I said

To His best I release you
And I don’t regret a single day we shared
No, this isn’t what either of us dreamed of
But I want nothing but good for you now
I can never be sure, but I hope she heard
My last words

I said I have loved you without regret or reservation
Even in the death that this will be
Oh I’m thankful for the time that we spent side by side
And I’m praying somehow that the best is yet to be

You might say, that was a little too late
But it was important to me, to get to say what I mean
